FAQ Forest Schools

What is a Forest School (learning style)?

Forest Schools, which are more common in Europe and other parts of the world than the United States, are known for their inspirational curriculum offering learners opportunities to achieve and develop confidence through hands-on learning in a woodland environment. Baywood Forest School is a nature immersion education program designed to accommodate gifted children. The Baywood Forest Schools offer the full compliment of academic studies with appropriate acceleration plus an abundance of science, humanities and natural history enrichment.

What happens in case of bad weather?

Forest School philosophy states, "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing."  In the case of Baywood Forest Schools each Pod ( Mentor and their 5 students) will decide whether they will meet in the Forest or move to an indoor location.

Where is Baywood Forest School Located??

BFS operates in Leona Canyon, Oakland California..  Junior Grade through Upper Elementary classes take place in the upper canyon, Middle and High School grades meet in the lower canyon.  Of course for security reasons, we do not publicly publish the exact location. Specific directions are provided to parents who are considering enrollment or signing up for programs we are offering in the school.

What are the details visitors need or want to know?

Yes, ample parking is available in both upper and lower canyon locations. Lower canyon parking is free, upper canyon parking has a small fee of two dollars per day.
